Sometimes called barrier resins, this family of plastics if intended primarily for use in packaging. Major characteristics of the materials are barrier properties relating to the transmission of gas, aroma, or flavor of the package's contents. The resins are similar in melt processibility to rigid PVC and some grades of ABS; they can be extruded, blow-molded, and thermoformed.
