Bismaleimide

Details

Material hierarchy: Polymer - Thermoset

The bismaleimides are very-high-temperature-resistant condensation polymers made from maleic anhydride and a diamine such as methylene diamine (MDA). BMIs are used in applications where the heat resistance of epoxies is not sufficient, and have the capability of performing at 400 to 450°F continuous-use temperatures. They have similar processing characteristics to epoxy resins and can be handled on equipment used for epoxies. Composite structures made from BMI resins are used in military aircraft and aerospace applications. These resins also are used in the manufacture of printed circuit boards and as heat-resistant coatings.
