Polyetheretherketone

Details

Material hierarchy: Polymer - Engineering Thermoplastic - Polyketone

These materials are crystalline polymers of aromatic ketones that exhibit exceptional high-temperature performance.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is tough and rigid, with a continuous-use temperature rating of 475°F. The polymer is self-extinguishing (UL94 V-O rated) and exhibits very low smoke emission on burning. Its crystallinity gives it resistance to most solvents and hydrolytic stability. PEEK also is resistant to radiation.

Glass- and carbon-fiber-reinforced polyketone compounds are standard, and PEEK also is combined with continuous carbon fiber to produce a thermoplastic prepreg for compression molding.

PEEK is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic, with a continuous use temperature range of up to 480°F (249°C). It has a medium difficulty to machine. It has excellent dimensional stability and chemical resistance. It has low moisture absorption. It has excellent wear and abrasion resistance. It has superior dielectric strength.
