Polyimide

Details

Material hierarchy: Polymer - Thermoset

Thermoset polyimide resins are among the highest-temperature-performance polymers in commercial use, with the ability to withstand 1000°F for short periods. The materials also perform extremely well under cryogenic conditions. They exhibit high impact and tensile strength and dimensional stability. Polyimides are inherently combustion-resistant. Applications for thermoset polyimides include films for electric motors, various aircraft/aerospace uses (engine components, insulation for wire and cable, bearings), chip carriers for integrated circuits, printed wiring boards, and coatings.
